Tummy Tuck, Loose Skin, Liposuction

Loose skin comes in many degrees. Pregnancy leaves many with lax skin and abdominal wall muscles. Dieting and exercise will just not tone the skin.

The type of surgical solution is dictated by the problem. While liposuction can help with localized fat, the extra skin must be dealt with in a different fashion. Tummy tuck surgery tightens the skin of the abdominal wall. The lower incision is the place where the extra skin is removed. Greater degrees of redundant skin often need longer incisions.

The skin is tight after surgery. Loose skin has been removed. Skin just above the belly button has been moved to just above the pubis. A new hole was made for the belly button. The abdominal rectus muscles were tightened.

An attempt to grab loose skin after surgery demonstrates the tight tissues after tummy tuck.

In cases of massive weight loss, the problem may extend around the entire body. A compromise can limit the extent of the surgery. This patient has loose skin front, sides, and back. There are various options to sculpt such loose tissue. A single stage body lift has certain risks. She chose just to start with an extended tummy tuck alone.

Instead of a total body lift, this patient chose tummy tuck alone. The extended incision permitted much redundant tissue to be removed. The compromise was in the back. The loose skin there could be further tightened with a second stage operation extending along the back.
